Solitude on the Seafront
Nearly every day I ride along the seafront at Bexhill in the cool grey before dawn and have noticed and liked this pleasingly melancholic composition with the ice cream stand and the beach huts and have attempted several times in the past to capture it but without ever being fully satisfied with the results. It was almost there, but not quite. Something was missing, some element I couldn’t quite put my finger on but which needed to be there to capture the sense of it. And then this morning I looked up and saw it: the moon. That’s what the composition needed: a pale gibbous moon floating above a few wisps of cotton candy clouds.
