A Cycling Postcard – Down Memory Lane, Herstmonceaux
Often as I pedal along the picturesque English lanes up in the weald I find myself thinking that I’ve magically ridden into the frame of an old postcard, circa 1907, or an illustration from one of H.G. Wells’ gentle turn-of-the-century cycling novels – The Wheels of Chance, or Kipps or The History of Mr Polly – and that I might perhaps encounter one of his characters coming around the next bend. Being a collector of old postcards and happily familiar with the style, and courtesy of some very un-1907 Lightroom magic, I decided to create one of my own – an old cycling postcard with me in the frame. This taken on a lane not far from the old church at Herstmonceaux.
