A Backward Glance

There’s a glorious satisfaction to be had after a long ride in being able to look back and see the distant places to which you’ve just ridden your bicycle. This image taken on an old concrete jetty at Bexhill on Sea on the homeward leg of a predawn ride over to Eastbourne. The town and the sea cliffs were obscured by a blanket of sea mist which, combined with the violet pre-dawn glow, lend the scene a soft painterly quality which I played to by using a shallow depth of field and a telephoto lens, so that I appear vividly sharp, as though I were in a studio with some histrionic stage scenery propped up behind me.
