Welcome to My-Bicycle-and-I
By way of introduction I am a magazine writer and photographer who loves bicycles and cycling—not to race or get fit or even commute, but for the simple pleasure of being abroad in the world on two skinny wheels.
Since I enjoy writing nearly as much as I enjoy riding, I decided to put together this eclectic collection of stories, essays, reviews and columns. While many of them are based around bicycle and cycling, I've not hesitated to stray on occasion, or to include some stories simply because I liked them or the the photograph around which I wrote them.
A word on the menus. If you click on the heading 'Through Darkest Belgium' in the menu, you will find a book-length 23-part travelogue on a cycling jaunt I made from Sussex to Istanbul in the summer of 2000, while under the heading 'National Geographic' you will find some stories I wrote for National Geographic which I particularly liked. The On-Line journalism page contains features and stories I wrote for National Geographic website.
I hope you will find some things in here you like.
I am a photographer as well as a writer and, unless otherwise noted, all of the photography on this site is mine. In the case of cycling shots on the site, I am both the photographer and the subject - doing my shooting by means of remote shutter releases, timers, tripods, and much practice.
If you would like to see more of my work, I have a dedicated photography website You can visit it
